The Mind's Eye

The eye sees much much less than what is “out there” and what it can see and much more of what it—tethered to the brain---wants to see; of what it expects to see and what it is primed to see. In short, seeing occurs in the brain and the eye is merely the sensor and window to seeing and not the “brain” that underpins and funds the seeing and learning. The eye is much less like a camera than a “camera person” learning the trade and learning what is noteworthy. We tend to see what we know and “miss” both what we don't comprehend and by the pursuits that distract us (like the Gorilla on the basketball court that almost no one notices).
